Over the Moonlight is a weird little experience that’s weird, trippy, and a little creepy at the same time.
It’s not a horror game at its core, but the whole concept of it has some horror elements.
It’s a tiny little LSD simulator-like experience with a soothing soundtrack to accompany you. The game puts you on an island with a boat and gives you a crazy mishmash of colors. You can “paint” the atmosphere with a huge array of colors.
So you walk around, explore, and travel between different islands to see what’s new. Each island has new colors and areas for you to paint and is unique in its own way. It’s not really a game, but more like an atmospheric simulator. You’ll need total immersion and good headphones to fully experience it. The whole point of the experience is just to see all the colors and get immersed. It’s kind of scary, fascinating, and extremely interesting all at the same time.
The graphics and artwork are what make up Over the Moonlight. Everything looks like you’re in a dream and lost in a world of colors. It has an abstract look to it that’s weird, perplexing, and soothing.
This game could either creep you out or give you a very zen-link experience.
Do you play the game, or does it play you? It’s one of those games that you could hardly call a game.
The controls are kind of weird, so they’ll take getting used to (see controls below to save yourself time).
It’s a strange game with no story. But it makes for a very weird little experience that’s pretty immersive. The game is really what you make of it.
Some awkward control tips:
Z = Move forward
Q = Move Left
R = Restart game
It’s free to play and you can try out Over the Moonlight for yourself using the link below. It’s a weird one.
The game does require a pretty beefy computer for its graphics.
- Creepy, immersive graphics and gameplay
- Soothing music
- Explore a world of colors and palettes
- Graphics are crazy
- LSD simulator
- Controls need work
