SoulCalibur 6 is now available for Open Beta for PS4 and Xbox One!

Players are now free to download the game that took six years for Bandai Namco to finally bring back to the scene. Jump into the 1v1 sword-swinging action. SoulCalibur 6 features some awesome visuals compared to previous games and a new Reversal Edge gameplay mechanic which allows time control after a successful block.

The beta features 16 to play as and almost a dozen levels to play in. Play can choose from a fleshed-out roster of fighters: Sophitia, Kilik, Groh, Nightmare, Xianghua, Ivy, Zasalamel, Mitsurugi, Siegfried, Taki, Maxi, Talim, Yoshimitsu, Tira, Voldo and Geralt.

The beta runs on Sunday night at 8PM PT, so get in now!

Super CLASH Bros is an indie platform arena brawler akin to Super Smash Bros. It’s also known as Mario V. Sonic: Dawn of Clash Bros.

It’s a game that sports a roster of classic characters like Mario, Sonic, Link, Mega Man, Luigi, Bowser, Tails, and even Yoshi (with Mario). The characters use attacks and moves that mimic their original skills from their respective titles.

Besides the signatures abilities, they also retain the same control scheme, HP bars, and even power-ups from their home series. Mario can whip out Yoshi and Mega Man can jump and shoot while Sonic uses rings as his HP. If you want originality to the extreme, Super CLASH Bros delivers.

Although this can cause some gameplay imbalances, it is a fan-made SSB spin-off so you can’t expect it to be competitive. It’s for screwing around and having a good time. If you like Sega and Nintendo and SSB, this game can’t be skipped!

Remember back then in the 90s there were daily heated debates about Sega vs. Nintendo? Sega does what Nintendon’t? Blast processing? Who would win: Mario or Sonic?

This game was made to answer (some) of those questions. Super CLASH Bros takes the characters directly out of their original games and pits them against each other in a variety of Mario-themed levels and some other ones (Mario must be the home team), and has them duke it out in an all-out battle of the epics!

There is no character-balancing or design balancing. Some characters break the game and some attacks are just overpowered. But that’s the fun of it. The game features a total of seven characters to choose from and some extra skins for each character.

For example, you can dress Mario up in his 8-bit or 16-bit versions. As mentioned earlier, the control scheme for each character remains identical so it retains the classic controls. They also have their own HP bar and abilities lifted straight from their respective series. You can even use power-ups from crates that give a special ability to your character kind of like Smash Balls in SSB.

The game is nothing more than just a little fan-made simulator to answer all you and your friends’ questions about different characters from different games going against one another. It’s a blast to play with a buddy and if you two are hardcore nerds (kinda like us), you’ll have a very good time. It has local multiplayer and answers the age-old question of what would happen if the characters were kept accurate to their original games? It also supports gamepads which is recommended.

Super CLASH Bros can be played on the browser so no download is necessary. But I suggest downloading it for better gamepad support and performance. The Unity web-based version is super glitchy. Use the link below to play it.

CHOP is a fast-paced, 2D awesome arena fighting game with a unique twist.

Instead of killing everyone off or getting the best kill count, your goal is to escape the entire arena through a portal! It’s a crazy-fast game that offers “visceral gameplay” with plenty of gore, dismembered limbs and body parts, and super fast movements that require twitch reflexes to dodge and evade. You’ve probably never seen anything like this- at least I haven’t.

It’s a game that takes place on a set stage with a few platforms. It’s you vs. other players and all you need to do is make it to the end portal to beat the game. But both of you will be chopping each other up constantly which makes the game pretty challenging.

You can’t simply dash to the portal to win because you’ll have to carefully (but quickly) time your jumps across platforms. You’re very vulnerable to attack during the jumps and if you get hit, you need to spawn from the start! Each level also has plenty of hazards as well.

The game will have multiple characters each with special abilities and the game will feature multiple game modes as well. The main mode is Rush Out which is where you need to hack, slice, dice, and run to the portal! CHOP will have a full roster of characters, arenas, and special abilities later on and also 2 more game modes- Last Survivor and Skull Hunter. There’s a lot to get excited about.

Think of Super Smash Bros on steroids. And then throw it into a speed blender and add more steroids. And then throw Street Fighter in there and blend it again.

The game has a one-hit kill mechanic with instant respawn. It’s a game of repeating movements that’ll make you feel like you’re playing DOOM or something combined with platforming elements. The game draws influence from Towerfall, Nidhogg, and SSB.

To catch up to your opponent, you can use dash attacks which basically splice through other players and allows you to get a burst of speed. However, they can quickly catch up as well with the same attack from behind as you’re trying to make your jumps!

The artwork is amazing. It has a comic book feel that’s filled with gore and special effects like it’s a battle between epics.

CHOP is playable with up to 4 friends. You can do 1v1, or 2v2 for teams. And you can also do 1v3 if you’re up for the challenge! Local multiplayer on the couch is where it’s at.

If you’re looking for an awesome, hectic, and crazy-fast game to play with friends, this is it. Give CHOP a try. It’s one of the most extreme indie party games to date. You can currently play 1 character with a single ability and game mode in this version. If you’re playing alone, you can play against bots as well.

Rawal Rumble is a beat ’em up game where you need to take on the streets in retro sidescrolling style!

If you’re a fan of legends like Double Dragon and Final Fight back in the 90s cabinets, you’ll like Rawal Rumble.

You take on the city with either single player or with a friend in local co-op mode, just like the classics. You have an assortment of combat moves (arcade style), tons of weapons to wreck some carnage, and lots of baddies to beat up! It’s a hit and smash and bash classic throwback!

The game has a deep sense of humor all over the place. You need to take down the cyber-police who kidnapped your girlfriend and stop the chaos. You play as a Catalan soldier who’s been retired and now sells food on the side of the street. But that doesn’t mean you lost your badassery.

Rawal is an urban city where the government has tried to take over the people by using some crazy experiments. The cyber-police reigns Rawal and scours the streets with heavy traffic to watch the citizens. It’s up to you to stop them.

The game plays just like the favorites you grew up with. You move to the right and just take out all the swarms of enemies that show up. Use attacks, weapons, and special equips to take them down. It’s a lot more fun if you have a friend to join you locally (no online play), but even with single player it’s still a blast to play.

There’s even a bunch of combos you can do by pressing a succession of keys. That’s pretty awesome. You can find the whole list on the game page linked below and check it out. These moves are flashy and look awesome when you pull them off. And they’re powerful too.

It’s still in early access, so it only has a single full level and also a survival mode where you try to get the best score possible. You play in a huge subway and you need to take down the baddies using your martial arts and weapons you find along the way. Then you face the boss of the subway which is trigger-happy with throwing bombs at your face.

Rawal Rumble isn’t a difficult game and you’ll probably beat it on your second attempt. But it’s still very fun to play and recognize the humor in it. There are a lot of weapons and baddies to take down, and a lot of jokes scattered throughout the game. There are even some tribute items to the classics.

If you like these 90s beat ’em ups with nonstop action, give Rawal Rumble a dance. You’ll have a good time with retro artwork, sound, and classic button-mashing action. Try it out.

Slap City is an online arena fighter that features characters from the world of Ludosity.

If you’ve never heard of them (like we haven’t), they compose of characters from entities like Card City Nights and Little Dew.

Slap City has you choosing your favorite character and duking it out in a Smash Bros-style fighter. You can play locally on the couch with friends or online with up to three other players. The game has full couch multiplayer support and online support as well.

You can choose from traditional game modes like FFA, Battle, 1v1, and even some minigames as well. The game also offers a ladder mode as well for ranked games, so there’s a competitive field if you’re into that. There are even single player challenges.

The game is still in dev and it’s still very new at this point. But you can choose from a few different characters and play in a few different worlds. It’s not a hardcore game at all. It has cute animations and graphics with a very easy learning curve. But there’s still the ability to play competitively if you’re a tournament player.

Slap City will have support with any controller or keyboard, including old controllers like GameCube ones with drivers.

The game is available on Steam for alpha. Sign up for the next possibly big brawler! There isn’t much info about it now, but you can check out the dev page for a quick little demo of the gameplay. It already looks pretty polished even in this early access state.

ICONS: Combat Arena is like Super Smash Bros. in another world.

It’s a fast-paced fighter that plays very similar to SSB. Fight with special abilities. Dodget attacks. Knock your opponent off the stage to win. You know the rules.

The game is being created by a group of developers who’ve worked at huge AAA companies like Riot Games, Blizzard, Twitch, Sony, and even Bioware. This game will bring the heat because they have the knowledge and experience from creating groundbreaking titles. You can get your expectations through the roof for ICONS.

The game is designed to be a platform fighter with a fast, responsive, and skill-based fighting system. It’s supposed to be like SSB on steroids. From the gameplay footage I’ve seen, the game does look like it’s a lot faster than SSB.

The graphics, sound, and animations are all very well done and already look very polished. It’s like a realistic version of SSB. You can tell from some of the animtions that this game definitely draws its inspiration from the SSB series.

So far, you can pick from 5 different figthers to join the arena. Just like SSB (sorry for the constant referencing), each fighter will have a different and unique playstyle. Whether you like close range combat or shooting from afar with projectiles, ICONS has you covered.

Is this game a competitor to SSB? Definitely. It’s promptly being made to fill in a lot of the pitfalls that fans have complained about and offer a fresh new take on the genre.

Don’t call it a “similar” game to SSB, it’s an “alternative” to compete with SSB.

ICONS: Combat Arena is focused on skill rather than whacky powerups or environmental hazards. That’s the biggest difference.
