Nightkeep is a mix between metroidvania and JRPG games into one epic platformer.

It’s a colorful platformer that’ll instantly remind you of SNES classics like Castlevania, Demon’s Crest, and even some old-school Donkey Kong elements. It’s an action RPG platformer with pretty graphics and a tight control scheme.

If you grew up with these legendary titles, you’ll instantly get hit with the nostalgia. The artwork is just amazing and will bring you back to the past.

You play as a few different characters in a mysterious and eerie game world. It’s happy, yet daunting at the same time. The game is based on quests that earn you “rank points” that you can use to upgrade your skills (like SP). This, in turn, will bring up new quests and is a critical part of the story.

There’s the main story and side quests all over the world. The side quests are optional, but they’re actually really interesting to play through and you’ll find yourself lost for hours in them. They add to the storyline because they’re not off on a huge tangent.

You can use basic melee weapons such as swords and whips and you can use abilities like sliding and dashing. Eventually, you can use magical abilites as well. And of course, there are platforming elements with all sorts of scenarios. There are also a ton of different enemies like bats, spiders, and mushrooms. You travel through multiple environments like dense forests and towns.

If you like JPRGs, you’ll probably like Nightkeep.

There are epic boss fights and rare monster fights as well. You can pick up some awesome loot if you’re successful. Rare monsters are rare. They only appear once and you only have one chance to kill it and grab its loot, so be ready for them.

Nightkeep has a vast world and is extremely difficult. You can only melee at first but then you eventually use magic. The game does have its mercy points, but overall it’s a difficult platformer.

The game is still in early access alpha and is available for download.

The artwork, soundtrack, and characters are all original. There’s a leveling system equipable items, power-ups, and some parts are rogue-like. In total, the game sports over 70 items and even multiple endings to add replayability.

You can check out the game in its alpha demo before it goes big. It’s a gem.

Echo – Our Voice is an awesome little indie RPG game.

It features a top-down perspective and pixelated graphics that’ll instantly remind you of classics like The Secret of Mana and even old-school Zelda.

You start out as an adventurer that has the need to prove herself by hunting down monsters and bringing back tons of treasure. It’s heavily influenced by JRPGs with the dialogue boxes and anime character portraits. Whether or not it’s truly a JPRG, you can clearly see the eastern influence this game possesses. And it’s awesome.

You slay enemies, solve puzzles, and go on side quests alongside your main quest.

Explore dungeons, mines, caves, fields, and towns as you travel around to different lands questing and helping people. Ther are over 10 puzzles and mini mages to play through.

The game features a skill tree that progresses with earned points for every time you level up (SP). You use these points to level up your skills with over 50 to choose from. Each skill is detailed with required levels, EN (mana) cost, cast time, cooldown timers, and elemental damage. Each character also has an Ultimate skill as well which slices the screen into fancy anime battle scene and has tons of eye candy for you to appreciate.

The characters also have individual stats that level up as well- you have stats like critical damage (CRI), final damage, EN (mana) cost, healing power, etc. The game has all the RPG elements you’d expect. It’s called the growth system and your characters’ abilities get enhanced depending on what you do in each boss fight.

Echo also features three original tracks in its OST and an original opening cinematic that looks absolutely stunning.

It’s made by a Taiwanese team called Nobody Studio and took over 7 years to develop. In is current build, there are about 3-4 hours of gameplay if you take the time to explore everything. You play with the keyboard and mouse and it offers configurable hotkeys as well as a difficulty system.

If you like action RPGs, try out Echo – Our Voice. It’s a fresh take on the genre and one of the best indie RPGs released in a while.

Path Out is an adventure game that’s heavily based on a storyline you’ll find very entertaining and narrated to near-perfection. It’s that good.

It plays like a JRPG with a lot of dialogue and backstory. You play as Abdullah Karam. You’re a Syrian that escaped a civil war and now you’re embarking on your own adventure.

The game is very well-written in dialogue.

There’s humor, paradoxical scenarios, and a lot of unexpected surprises as well. The game takes place in episodes, and this is the very first chapter.

You get to relive Abdullah’s life before the war and why he ended up in the war. Without spoiling too much of the game, you’ll see that it’s professionally written and goes into great detail.

The game is based on actual events that have occurred and you get to travel to environments such as war-torn Syria.

The artwork is simply gorgeous. 16-bit pixel art with a touch of Syrian art that’s just stunning.

Pair it with electronica neo-orchestra music and you have a very immersive experience.

The game also has commentary done by Abdullah as a narrator.

Path Out is clever, straightforward, funny, and witty. Any adventure-minded gamer will appreciate the fresh take on the genre.

It stands out from the sea of other half-ass RPG games out there and is definitely worth a play through.
