Sky Knights is a dogfighting game with a top-down perspective.

You choose which aircraft you want to take flight in. These crafts are fully customizable to your liking. After you build it, you go ahead and take on the skies. It’s time to dogfight.

You need to destroy the enemy base and defend your own. To do this, you have an arsenal of weapons to take them out. You start with a machine gun which is powerful for mowing down small enemies, but it’s rather weak. Then you have the heat-seekers, which are a lot more powerful and homing after a brief lock-on period. To destroy the base, you use nothing but bombs that fall out of your plane and go boom. These do big damage.

You also have flares to evade enemy missiles and afterburners to escape enemies for a quick boost.

The controls are very simple and the game is very straightforward. It’s an arcade dogfighting game with an emphasis on control, positioning, and some strategic thinking.

Your weapons have a usage limit, so you need to pay attention and use them only when needed. Because restocking them means going back to your own HQ and landing for a bit. It’ll refuel your afterburners, stock your weapons, and replenish your HP.

The game is pretty fun and worthy of a modern arcade experience. The graphics are very nice and the game is polished for alpha.

Hoover is a platformer indie game where you need to outrun a rising water level by using a vacuum cleaner.

If that’s not weird enough, add in some quirky features (like self-propelling) and a lot of difficulties. Then you have yourself a crazy platformer.

Your vacuum cleaner is carried by you, a chubby and stubby little penguin that’s immobile. You use the vacuum to propel yourself like a rocket ship through the level. It needs to recharge, so you refill it with air.But that’s not all. You can also suck in fish and enemies as well.

But that’s not all. You can also suck in fish and enemies as well.

When you expel the air, you can launch yourself as well as trigger events on the level. You can shift platforms, shift projectiles, and attack enemies with pure air. How cool is that?

Hoover is a difficult game. It’s hard to maneuver yourself around the world as it is. But there’s a timer. It’s slowly filling up with water, which means you’ll be moving upwards. It’s like a vertical platformer.

You need to climb onto different platforms like wood, ice, and rock. They each have their own abilities:

• Rock platforms are pretty much the neutral platform
• Ice platforms can be broken with your head
• Wood platforms are mobile when you stand on them and use your vacuum

You can also snag powerups to upgrade your vacuum or replenish your health bar. You’ll need them so grab them as soon as you see them. The game is hard.

Once you get good at Hoover, you’ll notice that it’s a game that takes skill to play.

BAFL: Brakes Are For Losers is exactly what it sounds like.

It’s a top-down fast racing game that’s very reminiscent of arcade racers like Indy Heat or RC Pro-Am.

You race around and do laps on a set course without brakes (as the title suggests). If you like old-school arcade races, this game is for you. You get to race through a wide variety of tracks (about a dozen) that are set in a few different popular locations. Choose from real life locations to wacky and cliche ones like the moon. The courses aren’t static either. They have their own hazards that you need to avoid.

Besides the track hazards, you also need to watch out for your opponents. BAFL has a bunch of powerups similar to Mario Kart where you can fire at, slow down, or knock your opponents out of commission. It’s a blast to play.

Your vehicle is always moving so you can’t stop. There aren’t any braking abilities or ways to slow down. You need to be able to dodge, weave, and race all at the same time. Each car also has its own abilities as well. They can even be upgraded with cash you win during the race, just like the arcade classics.

You can play locally with a full house or play offline in campaign mode. There’s even time trial and a perfect race mode. You can go against bots or yourself. Everything is tracked in a persistent leaderboard so you can compare your scores against others.

BAFL: Brakes Are For Losers is an awesome indie racing game that you need to check out. It’s the best take on the genre in quite some time.
