I probably shouldn’t have.

Janitor’s Day is a first person, low-poly game made in Unity where you literally walk around in an office after hours. You’re actually working overnight and you start to notice some weird things going on.

The game plays like many others that were made in Unity, but there’s one thing about this game that you probably won’t expect. The whole game builds up suspense until you hit the ending part. The twist is all there.

For those who play horror, you’ll probably see the hints dropped along the game. Pretty freakin’ creepy. I totally regret playing it now.

There’s not much else I can say without spoiling the ending, so play it for yourself to find out.

Resident Evil RE(7)make is an awesome and spooktacular fan-made remake that lets you play through the original Resident Evil in 3D and first-person!

Yup. The original, 22-year-old classic back with a first-person perspective rather than the typically fixed camera mode. It feels like a whole new experience and the change from static to first-person is a trippy addition along with the newly redesigned textures, zombies, and new rooms with their challenging puzzles. There’s no tank controls, inventory management, and weird camera angles. But the game is still scary just like the original because zombies are now directly in your face!

It’s a nostalgic and new experience even for those who’ve played the game. The developer tweaked the layout of the mansion quite a bit with more rooms and puzzles to solve, plus the perspective itself makes shooting down evil baddies a lot easier, but then again, there’s limited ammo, so make your shots count!

The game is still scary with its atmospheric take especially now in first-person and the story is pretty difficult. Try out the original Resident Evil in this new, disgustingly scary take! There’s also a new Mercenaries feature which allows you to take down zombies in an arcade-like experience. Overall, it’s a very well-done RE remake and probably one of the best.

Overnight is a narrative horror game that’s similar to Do You Copy? because of the fact that the game takes place in the forest in a watch tower. And you’re a park ranger who gets the hint that there’s a killer on the loose.

You’re a war veteran who’s suffering from the effects of PTSD and now you’re a retired park ranger. Your simple day job has turned into a live manhunt as you’re informed that a killer is somewhere in your forest that you’re overwatching from a watch tower. The game almost feels like a Do You Copy? clone, but it does have a few things going for it that makes it slightly different. The game is a lot more st0ry-driven in the fact that you need to explore some dangerous areas with just a small flashlight and nothing else on you!

Without spoiling the game, you should try it out if you enjoyed Do You Copy?. Without the extra entity you’re guiding and just being alone, it’s a whole different experience. I wouldn’t say it’s as scary, but a lot more explorative and story-oriented.

Indagar is a first-person horror game that has you looking through an old apartment building for your lost daughter.

You play as a father who’s looking for his daughter because she was kidnapped and left with a note that indicates her location. You end up going to an old apartment where you discover that it’s not really abandoned- at all. Something is there and your daughter is being held hostage by it.

Without spoiling the game, you can beat it in about 20 minutes. It offers modern visuals, sounds, and some pretty nasty creatures chasing after you. If you like scary games, try out Indagar.

Bitter Tides is a psychological horror game that combines both puzzle and some stealth into one surreal experience.

It takes place in a dream world where you remember some incidents in your life and monsters run amok. The game is currently in a demo phase where you explore a scary dream through a puzzle adventure as you explore an old abandoned church. The atmosphere is spot-on and what you’d expect from a horror game with some very surreal textures and visuals.

The audio is also very well-done and ambient. It gives you this sense of apprehension and dread as you play through the game that constantly makes you want to shut it off but for some reason, you can’t. I could get through the first 10 minute without taking a break.

The horror itself is mainly through the atmosphere and a few well-placed jump scares here and there. It makes you really wonder what’s going on as everything is anything but reality. The game really puts you into a dream-like trance as you try to solve the puzzles. You’ll be scared to even wander around in order to explore what the area has to offer but you must if you wanna solve the puzzles in order to progress.

Wake Up is a horror game that’ll instantly remind you of the good old days when survival horror wasn’t mainstream.

Remember games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill with their fixed camera angles and tank controls? Wake Up is a recreation of it as you wake up in a low-poly PS1-era dream world. Your only objective is a navigate the world and get through the nightmare. It involves puzzles, monsters, and tons of weird trippy mixed reality scenes.

The game is very short and only takes about 20 minutes to complete. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t deliver the horrifying experience you’d expect from an old-school horror game. The audio and visuals are spot-on and the ambiance will just have you frozen in fear at some parts. The game plays like a dream where you need to travel to various locations with no recollection of why you’re there and what you’re doing. As you progress, the game gets more and more freaky.

Room 303 is an atmospheric horror game that’s pretty awkward and scary at the same time.

For starters, there’s a person who got killed in the room with you. You just got up and you have no idea what happened and you don’t know who you are. You may have even killed the person with you. Who knows? Like many horror genre games, this is the typical setup.

Your only job is to clean up the room by putting the stuff away in the secret order. As you put stuff away, other stuff gets unlocked and can be interacted with. As you start to clean up the place, you’ll start to uncover the story. It’s a pretty surreal horror game worth playing if you like scary games. It’s pretty unsettling and with its dark narrative, you’ll be caught in constant suspense. Definitely worth a try! Play Room 303 using the link and try it out for yourself.

Obsolete: After the Accident is a Five Nights at Freddy’s fan game that almost has the same level of horror that FNaF does.

To be fair, it’s still in early access so who knows what the final product will be like. Right now, it’s pretty scary as is. You play as a girl who’s trying to deal with a trauma she’s suffering from. So she’s somehow trapped in a facility with tons of scary animatronics.

The game has you navigating the facility with the use of a helpful animatronic named Aunty, which is a huge ant. You’re trapped in one room and you need to perform specific tasks at specific times in order to avoid getting killed. Just like FNaF, you can figure out the timing of specific attacks and prevent them by performing an action on time.

They range from anything from activating mechanics to playing a platforming minigame.

The current build isn’t that scary, but the atmosphere and design will make you feel like you’re playing an FNaF spin off or something. It has some gnarly animatronics with spot-on sound effects. Check it out if you like horror games.

Infliction is a dark and scary adventure game powered by UE4 for realistic presentation.

The game has you investigating an abandoned household that’s been run down and dilapidated over time. You’re trying to figure out what happened to it and put together the backstory behind it. There are plenty of objects you can interact with and read in order to understand what exactly happened.

As you explore this horrific household, you start to wonder if you’re really alone. That’s all I’m gonna say. The game is basically an interactive nightmare. The visuals create a very tense atmosphere that’ll give you chills faster than you can say “holy S!$T!” It’s a very scary game. Seriously.

The current build offers about 30 minutes of horrifying adventure and has some really nice artwork which makes it that much more scary than your typical indie pixelated horror game. Try out Infliction if you’re up for some realistic horror.
