The Historian is a horror indie game that has you going through some scary environments.
You’re a student of an American University. You’ve been possessed by the FBI and tasked with an objective. This leads you to an old base. You need to explore the base and uncover the secrets before it’s too late.
The game isn’t anything new in concept. A lot of other games are very similar to this since the genre is super-saturated with tons of games. The game plays in a first-person perspective and you’re armed with a flashlight similar to the original Slender.
The Historian offers plenty of scares and dark areas. The light you have isn’t very bright and you’ll find yourself getting lost or killed by something in the dark. You’ll need to do some trial-and-error before you can figure it out. That’s the bulk of the game.
You have to solve puzzles, avoid traps, and find secrets in order to beat it. This adds a level of exploration to the game, but you’ll be scared to do so.
Why?
Because this game doesn’t let up on the scares. It uses a jump scare delivery rather than a build-up type of suspense. You’ll jump when you least expect it and it’s guaranteed to at least get you a few times, even when you’re expecting it. The enemies are hideous and disgusting, which is why you’ll be on edge. It’s crazy.
Overall, the Historian is a good scary adventure that any horror fan will appreciate it.
- Jump scare galore
- Explore different areas
- Get secret items, solve puzzles, and avoid traps
- Flashlight is way too dim
- Some parts are too dark to find your path
- Cheap attacks by enemies
