Super is a pixelated platformer based on superheroes.
You get to create a customizable, unique hero to play as and you have the power to change the city.
Why?
Because you’re a “Super.”
Being so, you get special super powers that separate you from the rest of the citizens. It’s up to you to change the fate of the city.
Selling points aside, the game is basically a rogue-like platformer in a hybrid game world. By this, I mean it’s like a bunch of game genres combined into one platformer. You get to choose a hero, each with his or her own skills, special powers, and devices. You have the freedom to be a hero or a villain, or something in between. The city will react to your actions, so be careful.
Super lets you can walk, ride, and fly through the city. The game is a platformer at its core, but there are some RPG elements to it. For instance, you can visit shops, defeat bosses, and explore the city. The game places a heavy emphasis on letting you decide how you want to city to evolve. You play minigames to unlock Origins and Aliases, which are basically special abilities for each hero or villain.
The game is unique and one-of-a-kind. It may be kinda weird playing a game like this, but it’s actually very fun once you get the hang of it. Give it some play time before you judge it.
The graphics take on a retro, pixelated style. The game has a comic book UI layout that’s pretty intuitive and creative. It feels like playing a Flash game, but it’s a good one.
Super is still in early access, but it’s available for download right now. Try it out using the link.
