Dinosaurs: A Prehistoric Adventure (Early Access) – Play as a Dino in a Destroyed World

Game Review

Dinosaurs: A Prehistoric Adventure is a game where YOU play as the dinosaur.

A lot of games these days has you as the human against (or paired) with dinos. Think games like Ark and Jurassic Park (as terribly they may be).

However, in this game,  you play as a dinosaur in an action RPG. The concept isn’t unique, but it’s been a while where a game of this scale has been released.

You play as 15 different dinos each set in a fictional world. The environment is completely fake and isn’t historically accurate at all- but the dinos themselves are modeled based on real-world findings.

The dino you choose will have its own strengths and weaknesses. It’s up to you to choose whichever one you want based on your play style. You could be fast and agile or slow and strong. Even in an early access copy, they look somewhat detailed and play pretty fluidly.

Each dino also has its own way of overcoming obstacles and challenges in the environment. it’ll e easier for some and difficult for others. Your abilities allow you to take on some tasks while others find difficult. but it works both ways, so watch out for that.

The environment is post-apocalyptic (where have we seen that before?), so it’s nothing special. But in this world, instead of a nuclear explosion with a destroyed city, you have erupting volcanoes and poisonous material that’s been released into the air. This transformed and mutated once peaceful beings into havoc-wreaking monsters. You need to stop this corruption.

So you’re a morally-compassed dinosaur on a mission to save your planet. Pretty much.

The game has a few different modes. You can play the two main campaign modes, adventure mode, or exhibition mode which lets you learn about the dinos and watch them. This mode isn’t really necessary unless you’re a big fan of dinosaurs and you can’t get enough.

The only problem with the game is the control. They’re terrible. They need to be mapped properly.

Dinosaurs: A Prehistoric Adventure also has survival elements like hunger, thirst, and more. You need to watch out for these meters in order to keep yourself going. It’s a mix of an exploration and survival and RPG all into one and currently feels like an experiment more so than a game.

Either way, it’s still worth checking out just to see what kind of game this really is. It could be surprisingly interesting, or terribly bad.
