Lonk’s Greedy Adventure is a parody of The Legend of Zelda.
You play as Lonk (Link) who’s on an adventure to collect all the treasures in the world for himself. You’re on a quest to rescue Princess Zulda (Zelda). Who’d have guessed?
Like the actual game, you travel across a few different environments. It ranges from towns, dungeons, and even a castle called Dark Castle where Zulda resides with her kidnapper. The game plays as a 2D sidescroller with 8-bit graphics and you pretty much do some light platforming and run around collecting loot.
It’s all about the loot.
Get treasures like the Ultra Master Sword and the “bag” and the “Shield.” Who cares about rescuing a princess over and over when you can travel the world, get rich, and get all the girls you want?
You’re more interested in getting these treasures more so than rescuing Zulda. As you get more greedy and collect more treasures, you start turning into a greedy…pig.
Lonk gets slower. Jumps lower. Loses his agility. He literally turns into a greedy human pig. The items you get only weigh you down more and more. Eventually, you’ll across jumps you can’t even make anymore because you’re over-encumbered.
What does this teach us? Perhaps we should control ourselves and not pick up everything in sight. Perhaps it’s a lesson that we shouldn’t be believe everything good is good and we need to moderate. Perhaps it’s a shot at Nintendo for being greedy piggies for copyright claims. Who knows.
Lonk’s Greedy Adventure sports a branching adventure system and even multiple endings. The game is worthy of being played multiple times to see the effects of your actions and it’s almost like a “choose your story” kind of game.
If you’ve played any Zelda game before, you owe it yourself to play this parody. It plays in the browser so no download required. It features a soundtrack and original artwork. It even has a boomerang.
