Space Wars: Interstellar Empires is an epic turn-based strategy game with unique spacecraft.
If you’re into strategy games (that are free) and you want to play the newest one (that’s actually good), you’ll want to give this game a try.
You choose a galactic faction. Each faction has its own unique ships and fleet- even play style. It completely changes the game depending on the faction you choose.
There are literally hundreds of spacecraft to use throughout the game. You start out with a basic ship on a huge map scattered with different locations, advantage points, chokepoints, and enemy territory. You can engage others in combat, complete quests, and even go shopping for more spacecraft or upgrade your existing crew and ship.
You can travel with your faction in order to conquer the entire galaxy. Each galaxy consists of planets which are up for the taking. You can seize new ones or raid taken ones. You’ll have to forget clans and allies in order to make progress since the game is heavily team-based. But it’s still possible to explore worlds on your own just for fun.
This game has two sides- those who are playing it casually and those who are playing it hardcore. Depending on you, you’ll find similar players to pair up with. The game is hard to describe, but it plays like an MMO with TBS. There’s always something going on, whether it’s a raid, quest, and even just a clan event.
Of course, the main goal is to conquer the galaxy with your chosen faction. When an invading force takes over a region, the faction map gets updated to include that area. Every race must fight for control. It’s a constant battle and every single player makes a difference. The game plays a lot like EVE online mixed with a typical MMORPG.
The map is huge and consists of multiple regions. You can spend hours just traveling from place to place. There are always battles going on- hundreds at a time. You can participate in any of them if you’re powerful enough. You have a skill tree that needs to be unlocked so you can be useful in them.
The combat system is completely turn-based and heavily relies on game mechanics. It’s nothing groundbreaking and plays pretty much like any TBS you’d expect. Lots of factors to consider before every turn. Lots of numbers to crunch. Details matter. It takes place on a hex-based grid in 2D with awesome animations and effects.
The ships are also very detailed with battle-ready designs and intricate detail. Each ship feels similar but unique in what it offers. They’re upgradeable using the experience you gain from quests, and there are literally over 100 you can unlock. There are currently 2 factions in the game Sol Imperial Worlds and the Genari United Empires with plans to add more in later updates.
All in all, if you like strategy games and you want to be one of the first to play a possible AAA title, try out Space Wars: Interstellar Empires. It’s free to play and already has lots of players.
