Sticks and Stones is an island survival game.
There seems to be a new survival game rolling out every other day, so this genre is now extremely saturated.
For a game to become successful, it’s important that it distinguishes itself apart from all the others.
Sticks and Stones has some promising features that just may make it stand out.
Like many other survival games, your goal is to build a shelter, find food, and gather resources to protect yourself from the elements and survive. You explore the island and collect items to craft objects such as weapons and shelter.
The crafting system works just like how you’d expect it to. It’s similar to other games like Rust which uses a basic overlay crafting system. You have crafting recipes to easily build all the available items.
There’s also a weather system with a full day/night cycle. You can even set up rain barrels to collect water when it rains. During the day, you scavenge and hunt. During the night, you’re best off starting a campfire and crafting resources.
You can currently hunt rabbits, crabs, and a few other animals. The game has a pretty big island for you to explore.
What sets this game apart is that it’s promised to be actively developed without the wait between updates. There are plans for a bigger island, tents, tools, traps, hostile enemies, improved GUI, choppable trees, and a lot more. The developer states that the game is currently in feedback mode which allows players to suggest new features.
The game has the quirky Unity graphics you’d expect with a hotkey bar and a basic UI. It’s still very primitive right now, but still playable. You can pick up and place rocks, eat coconuts, and use a spear.
Therefore, Sticks and Stones is an actual Early Access game where the developer listens to the community and develops accordingly. That’s why it stands out and could be a hit in this genre with tons of competition.
