Snowspirit is a difficult point-and-click adventure game where you need to save a snowman from melting in the sunny winter.

This snowman his lived its entire life on a snow summit. However, the sun is here boiling hot and you’ve gotten less snowfall than usual. His worm stash is also destroyed and he’s getting some bad dreams with no food source. So that’s where you come in and guide this poor snowman around and help solve the issue by solving puzzles. The game takes place in a series of dream worlds each unique in environment and puzzles to solve.

You need to restore order to the natural world as you travel through blurred reality. It has an old-school Lucas Arts point-and-click interface that’ll remind you of some older classics. It also supports controller and voice input, so you can literally talk to the game to tell it what to do.

The game is difficult. You need to pay attention to the environment, inventory, and nearly everything. Look for clues to solve puzzles.

The puzzles are difficult because they’re not so obvious. You’ll have to tread carefully and fully utilize your environment in order to progress.

T-ROT The Last Probe is a difficult third-person shooter with a mix of tower defense all into one game.

You play as a small robot who needs to defend his cargo from invading attackers. You have a variety of weapons that range from automatics to rocket launchers, but you also have the ability to command an entire fleet of towers to defend your cargo!

The game plays in waves similar to any TD game. You have a choice of seven total different towers but you get to only select four at the beginning of each match. You can choose from Flames, Lasers, Electric, Turrets, and Barricades. There are a total of seven waves of enemies with a big boss at the end.

Each wave ends and allows you to build your defense just like any other TD game. You can place turrets, block paths, and use your strategies that you’ve gained all throughout the years to take on another exciting TD. The third-person shooting phase is probably the most entertaining and you work synergistically with your turrets.

Each wave gets progressively more difficult with the boss being the kicker. If you like TD, try out T-ROT The Last Probe for a fusion of genres. The game’s page and description are in French, but you can easily use a translator to translate it.

The Basement’s Calling is a horror puzzle adventure game that takes on a new twist to the old genre.

In this game, you have to escape a basement. But the only problem is that it’s full of glitches bugs- done on purpose. It mixes a sense of humor and also breaks the fourth wall as well as you try and struggle to find your way out of this damp and dark little room. You need to solve a variety of puzzles that that are easy to medium to extreme difficulty and find a hidden key to escape.

The puzzles get pretty glitchy and the game gets pretty surreal. You’ll learn that the game is a lot more complex than you thought.

If you’ve played point-and-click horror games, you’ll know what to expect. The puzzles will require you to point and click everywhere to escape and progress, but they get pretty difficult.

The basement gets more and more dilapidated as progres and the game gets more and more weird. It’s glitchy, unsettling, and pretty scary. If you’re looking for a horror point-and-click that’ll offer a challenge, try this game out.

PokeyPoke is an indie platformer game where you use a spear to do pretty much everything.

You’re a running character armed with just a spear. But this spear is a special spear. Your character does everything with it- bouncing on walls, getting higher ground, getting across the ceiling, getting across bombs, and even defending against projectiles. It’s pretty much your multipurpose weapon, armament, and pogo stick!

You can use it to climb tall platforms like a rock climbing pick. You can use it to break objects. You can even use it to catapult yourself quite a distance as well. If you see bombs in the area, you can bounce them off and use them to break pathways. You pretty much traverse the entire game with just a pear- it’s amazing what you can do with it.

The game isn’t easy though. PokeyPoke takes advantage of all the classic and deceiving platformer elements you’d expect from a platformer game. You’ll see timed jumps, huge gaps, and even tricky coins and stars you’d dare to collect. The game is pretty generous with checkpoints, but it’ still pretty difficult for a platformer game.

The environments you explore are huge. You can freely explore the entire map if you wanted to, but the majority of it is laid out with purpose coins. The coins are there to lead you to new areas. There are also stars you can collect as well. These objects make it sort of like a collectathon game (Mario) and you can easily keep track of how many you still need with a small counter on the screen.

Overall, if you like challenging and ingenious platformers, give PokeyPoke a try. It’s a simple, yet very clever indie platformer that’ll have you flinging, climbing, scaling, hopping, and jumping all over the place.

Rage Chicken is a game that’s made specifically to do nothing else but make you rage.

If you’ve played rage-inducing platforms like Cat Mario and Getting Over it with Bennett Foddy, you’ll know exactly what Rage Chicken is like. It’s a game that’ll have you screaming at the screen if you take this game seriously. You’ll rage. You’ll laugh. You’ll do both at the same time.

Oh, and you play as small pixelated yellow chicken.

It’s a very, very difficult physics-based platformer where you need to navigate the level by sidescrolling your way through it. Avoid and use platforms, make crazy jumps, and dodge obstacles. Do whatever it takes it to beat the game. It’s nearly impossible.

You need to launch your chicken through the level by dragging the mouse. It works kind of like Angry Birds, but you need to do it very, very carefully. One little screw-up and you’re toast. You do this to navigate the game.

The game is tough, unforgiving, and also has a witty narrator that’ll taunt you and make you rage even harder.

It’s relentless. Some of the jumps in the game are like pixel-perfect. You need to drag and aim perfectly or else you’ll screw up and probably have to start all over. You’ll actually see all your hard work dissipate right in front of your face. The game doesn’t care for any real checkpoints or any generosity.

It’s just you and a near-impossible trek through an obstacle-filled level.

Rage Chicken uses pixelated artwork with tributes to classic games like Mario. You’ll rage hard with this game. Be prepared.

Contra 2028 is a fan-made game that pays homage to the original and legendary Contra series.

It’s a modern day game powered by the Unreal Engine with super realistic graphics, effects, and sound. It’s pretty much the equivalent of Contra set in the near future.

But get this…it’s not a sidescroller platformer like the original. Instead of playing on a 2D plane, this game upgrades the experience to a breathing 3D world. You could literally say it’s a whole new game that uses familiar characters and weaponry from the original Contra.

It’s actually very similar to how Gears of War plays.

You start out as a soldier working for the British military and your only objective is to defend your country from the onslaught of enemies that are here to eat you up.

The game throws objectives at you here and there as well. It’s not like the original where you just need to make it to the end of the level and you beat it.

You’ll have to defend against waves of aliens that claw and bite you, and you’ll have objectives very similar to Doom’s minigames.

Beat these objective challenges and you’ll win extra guns, ammo, and even sentry turrets.

But don’t worry. You’re armed with very nice weapons that you’d expect from a Contra tribute game. You have heavy SMGs, rifles, pistols, shotguns, and even some blasty-blasty canons. The game even has an upgrade system for your weapons as well…and they’re pretty much required if you want to even survive for a bit.

That’s because the game is very, very tough. This isn’t a walk in the monster park. It’s a game where everything from weapon choice to your placement matters.

You get upgrades throughout the game to help you out, but you need to manage your ammo reserves so you can’t go spraying. You also have to utilize turrets to help take down hordes of aliens, and you have to also master your special abilities. You get a super jump and even a slide attack- both of which look awesome.

If you’re not up for a challenge, don’t play this game. It’ll kick some serious ass and requires only the most dedicated players to actually finish it.

Fox Flares is a difficult and colorful retro sidescrolling 2D platforming game.

You play as an unknown fox that literally has flares coming out of you. Literally.

Why?

Because you’re on freakin’ fire.

As you play through the level, you’ll notice that the flames only get hotter. There’s a bar that shows your current flame level and if it gets too hot, you’ll instantly combust and blow up. Therefore you need to finish the level as fast as possible.

This leaves you little time to think about random things and just focus on the level. Get to the goal. Save the fox.

You’ll need quick reflexes and total concentration in order to beat each level. They’re littered with combustible objects like haystacks and crates that can be lit on fire. But they require a specific level of heat in order to ignite, so you’ll have to time your moves accordingly. You don’t want to wait on one object for too long because there must be another way to solve it if you find yourself just wasting time.

Use the meter to see your current heat level and see how burning hot you are. You’ll need it to be just right in order to break the obstacles. Be careful though, some crates will even push you back due to the combustion which will waste valuable seconds or possibly even send you further into the level if you “launch” yourself just right. It’s always a risk but they’re huge timesavers.

There’s also stuff to cool you down- namely water. If you happen to find it, you’ll get an instant checkpoint and the heat bar will reset as well, which will give you more time to beat the level.

You’ll need to maneuver quickly and time your movements to beat the game. And it’s not easy.

Fox Flares is perfect for any platformer lover who’s looking for a challenge. Get ready to rage. A lot.

The game has gorgeous pixel artwork that’s worthy of appreciation. It brings back nostalgia to the classic platformer games.

It runs on the browser so no download is required.

Speer is a puzzle platformer indie game that’ll remind you of I Wanna Be The Guy.

It features retro pixelated graphics and tons of puzzles that involve levers, platforms, and switches. You’re just a running avatar armed with a “Speer” which you use to propel yourself up walls, destroy barrels, and turn on switches.

The game features a 2D plane with single-screen puzzle you need to solve. You can throw your Sspeer at switches and at walls and barrels in order to progress through the level. Wall climbing is pretty awesome and gives you a sense of satisfaction as you leap heaps up the edges.

Speer is a difficult game. At first, it’s very easy but then the difficulty ramps up like crazy. The puzzles, platforming, and everything else pretty much get more difficult. Things like switches are only basic puzzle elements. You also have to deal with keys, lanch pads, spikes, and a lot more. Each of these objects requires a different approach and sometimes combined approaches.

It’s easy to get into the game and easy to understand. But it’s difficult and interesting to solve. If you’re into puzzle platformers, this is definitely worth a play through. With its retro graphics and complex puzzles that are satisfyingly quenching to solve, it’s an awesome gem worth checking out.

The Legend of Tobimaru is a sidescrolling action platformer.

It features metroidvania-style gameplay with a retro take on the art style. This is pretty common nowadays, but that doesn’t mean it ain’t fun.

You play as a ninja who’s entitled to one duty- protect an ancient artifact. You’re an Orb Protector.

The orb is something that has magical powers for each clan that possesses it.

The storyline is as follows: Your clan gets attacked by another clan while you were away and now you’re on a mission to get revenge on the enemy clans. That’s pretty much it.

So, naturally, you want to steal their orbs and empower yourself to get stronger. The story is pretty involved for an action platformer, but that’s a good thing.

The game is pretty difficult. There are a lot of parts where you need to use precise timing in your jumps while defeating enemies. You get a lot of those “oh !@*)” moments are you’re dodging enemy fire and jumping at the same time.

If you’ve played any difficult platformer like Shinobi, you’ll know exactly what to expect. Each level is composed of a variety of enemies, traps, obstacles, and platforming to take on. There are also bosses as well.

You get a few abilities which are unlocked via upgrades. This makes the game slightly easier, but the majority is all skill-based. Each level has its theme and you need to progress through it by trial-and-error. And there’s plenty of that.

The game also has balance issues. Some enemies and bosses are way overpowered, so you’ll need to really play skillfully.

If you’re looking for a challenging, yet very satisfying platformer, check out The Legend of Tobimaru. It’s still in alpha, and there’s plenty of room for improvement. But so far, it looks pretty good. It’s worth a play through while it’s available.

Poipoil’s Adventure is a fun little indie platformer adventure game.

It’s a sidescrolling adventure game where you need to get to the end of the level without falling into any of the endless abysses.

The artwork is gorgeous, it’ll remind you of the classic NES Mario games. You’ll traverse through forests, snowy lands, lakes, and a few others. Although there aren’t any enemies for you to fight, there are environmental hazards. You have to watch out for natural obstacles like slippery ice blocks (that look exactly like the blocks in Mario 3). The game isn’t that difficult, but some parts do require some skillfully timed jumps to make it across.

And the best part?

It has multiplayer. Yup. Multiplayer.

You can play with a friend and try to get through the levels together via couch co-op. You both use the same computer as there’s no online play, but it’s okay, some people (like me) prefer it that way.

It’s like playing Mario 3 with a friend but you both need to get through the levels at the same time.

It offers a “race to the finish” kind of gameplay, so you’ll be rushing to get to the finish line first. It’s chaotic, difficult, and full of laughs.

This makes an awesome game to Let’s Play if you do group settings.

Each level you beat will bring the difficulty up, so it’ll get challenging towards the later levels.

The game is considered to be complete by the developer. It’s made by the Unity engine and looks very appealing. The game features colorful 2D graphics with parallax scrolling backgrounds.
