Running VoltGun is a side-scrolling arcade shooter similar to the legends like Contra on the NES.
You make your way through the world with a battery bar that’s constantly draining. You need to recharge it by collecting crystals scattered throughout the level. You also need to avoid enemy fire as they’ll (obviously) make it drain even faster, or you can kill them and get their crystals to replenish your battery alongside hunting for them in the level (or both).
You have a few unique weapons that have a primary and secondary fire mode. They’re equipped with different modes that use different amounts of battery. You need to conserve your energy by switching between the fire modes. There’s a low energy mode and a high energy mode. The low energy setting does less damage but uses less energy. The high energy mode does more damage but drains your energy bar like crazy. You need to think and toggle between them on the fly.
Some enemies are very weak and the lower setting will do just fine. Some are stronger so you need to turn it up a notch. You get a nice selection of weapons ranging from basic shotguns all the way up to explosive rocket launchers (which are crazy by the way).
The energy bar is your two main objectives you need to keep your eye on. Running VoltGun keeps you on your toes by thinking strategically rather than blasting away Rambo style.
Running VoltGun has about a little under a dozen levels for you to dodge, blast, and scavenge your way through. You play through differently themed levels with a variety of baddies and there are a few boss fights as well. The artwork is awesome. Pixelated retro graphics with good audio as well. Very nice.
If you like arcade old-school shooters, try out Running VoltGun.
