Exit-84 is like Mario Teaches Typing on steroids. Without Mario. And made to piss you off!
The game has a basic storyline of a King finding exactly what he was looking for on a dangerous planet called B-84. You, being just a humble peasant, must go and retrieve it for him. The only problem is that you need to enter the treacherous asteroid, avoid lasers, dodge bullets, and navigate through the dangerous planet by only using your fingers.
It’s a typing game. But not to teach you how to type- but rather, to be super difficult, fatigue your fingers, and make you rage.
The only thing your little pixel avatar has is your trusty coordinate reader. And the only way you can help him progress through this deadly planet is to type- as FAST as you can. A single split second means the difference between getting sliced to bits or reaching the EXIT.
Each level has a 2D platforming setup that kind of looks like something if Contra and Space Invaders had a baby. The game puts you in a ludicrous puzzle on each level and the only way to get across it is to time your typing.
Sometimes you have to time your typing. Other times you have to type crazy fast. And a few pats have you typing to match the rhythm of the animated hazards throughout the level. I strongly suggest you play this on a desktop with a keyboard- or at least whatever you’re most comfortable typing on- and FAST.
Your console reader shows you coordinates of where to go. When you type them in, your character will instantly warp to that position. This is how you navigate the levels.
Each level brings something new to the table. It’s interesting just to see how the dev came up with so many random ideas to make a typing platformer game out of. Exit-84 is very difficult. Even if you can type fast, you need to type accurately in order to actually beat the level.
You’ll get mad. You’ll get upset. You’ll type until your fingers fall off. It’s very frustrating to get to the end only to hit the wrong key or type too slow and then have to start over. It’s like Cat Mario Teaches Typing.
