Debris is a survival game where you’re placed deep in the ocean.
It brings up memories of Subnautica because that’s the only other ocean sandbox survival game I’ve played. But Debris does have its own gameplay elements that make it a unique indie survival game.
For starters, you can play the game in a co-op mode, or you can just play single player. Having the ability to play with another person makes all the difference. You can explore, hunt, and gather resources together. You’re stranded deep in the depths of an ocean that’s below freezing in temperature.
Debris has no real storyline for now. You’re stranded deep in the depths of an ocean that’s below freezing in temperature. The ocean is filled with dangerous creatures. You need to find a way to get to the surface and escape. The only story is that you were part of a crew that was sent on a voyage to research debris found in the Arctics. It came from a meteor and your crew was sent to investigate.
However, the debris isn’t any normal debris. It has this energy coming from it that could be harnessed to benefit humanity. So as you go dive in the ocean to explore it, things go awry and you’re quickly downed into the depths of the dark ocean. You’re trapped below in a maze of caverns with your crew.
Debris has you working with your teammates to figure out how to get to the surface and escape. You have limited air and power, so you’ll need to work quickly. You need to explore the ocean depths to do this. And it’s amazing. And scary.
The ocean is filled with tons of different creatures. Some emit light and are very nice to look at. You’ll see alien-like fish, robotic squids, and dangerous swimmers flowing around you. The game also has you taking on narrative choices which change the narration and gameplay.
The game is totally immersive with its graphics and sound. It’ll offer you a scary underwater survival experience as you explore the caverns, fight creatures, and try to escape the ocean.
